The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently studied the effectiveness of optional front crash prevention systems in General Motors vehicles, and we are pleased to report that they found a significant reduction in the number of crashes. Their study found that GM vehicles equipped with safety features like automating braking and forward-collision alerts saw a 43 percent reduction in front-to-rear crashes reported to police and a 64 percent reduction in crashes with injuries. Consumer Reports recently updated their list of vehicles they recommend based on reliability data, and while 12 models lost their recommendation, the Chevrolet Cruze is one of 17 models that gained a new recommendation. To determine reliability, Consumer Reports surveyed more than 500,000 of their members to identify any problems they have had with their cars over the last 12 months. The rumor mill has been quiet for a few weeks about the new mid-engine version of the Chevrolet Corvette but we do have a new look at the camouflaged test version side by side with a C7 Corvette. We can see that the front and rear overhang stay about the same, but the hood shortens and rear elongates to accommodate the engine. Along with the engine, air inlets have moved to the rear. A journalist from the Detroit Free Press recently set out to review the Toyota Camry, but after spending some time in it, she quickly decided she’d rather drive a Chevy Malibu. As the Chevy  Blazer gets closer to joining the Chevy family of crossover utility vehicles, we’ve just learned that it was chosen for the U.S. Department of Energy’s EcoCAR Mobility Challenge. This competition pits twelve universities against each other to modify the Blazer to increase fuel efficiency.
