After a statement earlier this year from General Motors CEO Mary Barra regarding adding plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to the GM lineup, the rumor mill has kicked into high gear. This week, anonymous sources have reported that the automaker has begun an immediate program to bring a PHEV version of the Chevy Silverado to market as quickly as possible. Plug-in hybrids provide the best of both worlds, with an electric motor that offers some emission-free all-electric miles for shorter trips, after which the gas-powered engine kicks on to provide more miles and towing power. So far this news is strictly in the rumor stage, but we will be eagerly anticipating official word from GM and will share it in this blog, so stay tuned!
