Chevrolet has entered the NFT world! For those who are unaware, an NFT, or non-fungible token, is a piece of digital data that is stored on a blockchain ledger, which makes them uniquely identifiable and irreplicable. The digital artwork is then sold or traded between users on an online marketplace. Chevrolet will be hosting the “Own Your Color” auction on NFT marketplace, SuperRare, to benefit DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization allowing for individuals to donate directly to public school classroom projects. In conjunction with the auction of the one-of-a-kind NFT, GM will be pairing it with a custom-painted, real-life 2023 Corvette Z06 color-matched to the artwork. “Own the Color” means Chevrolet will not apply Minted Green to another production 2023 Corvette Z06. In addition to a digital certificate of ownership and authenticity for the art piece, the physical Corvette Z06, equipped with the Z07 performance package, carbon fiber wheels and a commemorative plaque, will carry the option code RFN. The signification will forever associate the car with this auction and it’s one-of-one status. Vice President of Chevrolet Marketing, Steve Majoros, stated, “This is our company’s first NFT. We see ‘Own the Color’ as an important stepping stone for Chevrolet into future digital initiatives for our customers.” The auction wil be open to bidders worldwide June 20-24 and those interested may only place bids in Ethereum.
