Sixty-seven years ago, a phone call was made and a tradition began. A young child called a local phone number in the newspaper that advertised Santa’s phone number. Little did the child know, the wrong number was reached and the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Operations Center in Colorado Springs, CO was contacted instead of Santa! The colonel on duty that night urged his operators to find Santa’s location and report it to everyone who called in. Delighting the children left joy in the crew’s hearts and tracking Santa became a tradition even when CONAD transitioned to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in 1958. Since 2009, OnStar has teamed up with NORAD to be update families worldwide on Santa’s location while he journeys across the globe spreading presents and Christmas joy in every home. OnStar Members and their families can push their blue Onstar button between Monday, December 19, 2022 and Saturday, December 24, 2022 to reassure children that Santa is on his way by tracking the location of him and his reindeer. Every time someone pushes their button to find Santa, OnStar will donate $1 to the American Red Cross (up to a total of $25,000) to help those in need.
