Chevrolet has expanded its Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) fleet to include the Blazer EV into the mix. General Motor’s initiative is to become an all-electric manufacturer by 2035 to civilian and PPV vehicles alike. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV will be the first pursuit-rated all-electric Chevrolet in more than 60 years of tailoring vehicles for law enforcement. While more specifications along with range will be revealed closer to launch, in the first quarter of 2024, we do know that it will be based off the Blazer EV SS retail model. Specific police content will be implemented both in and on the vehicle including but not limited to skid plates, police-rated tires, police-specific front seats, and a driver spot lamp. In order to make use of room in the PPV, the rear cargo capacity will remove the “civilian” model’s false floor to make room for aftermarket cabinets and organizers. In addition, it will come standard with a Rear Camera Mirror, allowing for enhanced visibility as many police vehicles are equipped with prisoner partitions, cargo barriers, and vertical weapon mounts that obstruct the rear view. Vice president of GM Fleet stated, “During the Blazer EV’s development, we spoke with many law enforcement groups across the U.S. and Canada to learn how an all-electric PPV would serve them best and the Blazer EV PPV delivers.
