As the Chevy Blazer gets closer to joining the Chevy family of crossover utility vehicles, we’ve just learned that it was chosen for the U.S. Department of Energy’s EcoCAR Mobility Challenge. This competition pits twelve universities against each other to modify the Blazer to increase fuel efficiency. Students will still have to consider other factors like emissions, safety, utility, and public acceptability, so the modifications they make could someday find their way onto a vehicle on the road. “We support EcoCAR because students gain tremendous technical insights, leadership skills and hands-on experience while competing in AVTCs,” said Dan Nicholson, GM vice president, Global Propulsion Systems. “The challenges and solutions these students will develop working with their Chevrolet Blazers align with GM’s path to zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.” Phillips Chevrolet of Frankfort, Lansing and Bradley has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a growing family of crossovers.
