The 2024 Silverado 1500 will be receiving the second-generation Hydra-Matic 8L80 eight-speed automatic transmission with one of its engine choices. The transmission will be paired with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which is one of four engines available for the 2024 Silverado 1500. GM chose the eight-speed transmission rather than the 10-speed because the L3B engine generates strong torque. The ratios of the Hydra-Matic eight-speed match to the performance of the turbocharged 2.7L engine. The turbocharged engine that is paired with the eight-speed transmission is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, known as the TurboMax engine starting in 2024. Production of the 2024 Silverado 1500 is set to start on July 17th.
