Every year Car and Driver puts some of the top performance cars to the test in what they call a Lightning Lap, a single lap around Virginia International Raceway’s 4.1 mile course. This year the 2019 Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE took it’s turn equipped with an automatic transmission. The Camaro’s supercharged V-8 with 650 horsepower and torque finished the lap in 2 minutes, 45 seconds even, .7 seconds faster than the same car with a manual. From a field of 20 contenders, the Camaro’s time earned it a respectable 4th place, especially when you consider the only faster times were earned by two McLarens and a Porsche, all priced well into six figures, while the ZL1 1LE that competed bore a price tag of $76,380. Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort, Lansing and Bradley has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a great selection of Camaros ready to race for you.
