Mid-Engine Corvette Could Exceed 800 Horsepower

900 × 550

Despite General Motors staying decidedly mum on the subject, by all accounts a new mid-engine version of the Chevrolet Corvette is almost certainly coming soon. We’ve seen heavily camouflaged test versions on roads across the country for over a year now. Car and Driver has used those spy photos to mock up what they believe the new Corvette to look like. C&D also expects to see a variety of powertrain options in the mid-engine Vette, including an updated version of the current generation’s LT1 engine, a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter DOHC V-8 capable of 600+ horsepower, and that same 5.5-liter V-8 assisted by turbochargers and intercoolers to hit 800 horsepower or better. They also predict a 200 horsepower engine could be added to that V-8 bringing with it a horsepower rating of 1000 or more. We eagerly await official word that the mid-engine Corvette will be joining the Chevrolet lineup, and we’ll share it with you on this blog as soon as we hear it!
