Chevy Volt wins European car of the Year award.

The Chevrolet Volt has won the prestigious top prize as European car of the Year.
The Volt shared the prize with its European U.S. cousin the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera, based on the Volt with both models sharing the same unique powertrain, which consists of an electric motor powered by a battery that can either be charged from an outlet or from an on-board generator which is powered by gasoline.
It makes the second year in a row that a battery-powered model has won the award.
The Ampera and the Volt won out of a field of seven models, outstripping the Volkswagen which came in second place by a considerable margin, with 330 points to 281.

General Motors Co. Will take orders next month for its new 2013 bi-fuel Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 heavy-duty pickups that can run on both gasoline and compacted natural gas.
They will complement compacted natural gas Chevrolet Express and GMC offers to viable clients, and give GM’s fleet clients another option.
Mattman said fleet customers with CNG vehicles are saving between $6,000 and $10,500 in fuel costs in three years.
The bi-fuel trucks will seamlessly transition between compressed natural gas and gasoline fuel systems and combined offer drivers a range of more than 650 miles.
The trucks, built with a 6-liter V8 engine to run on compressed natural gas, are powered by the natural gas until supply is depleted. Drivers can switch to gasoline at any time by activating a dashboard switch.
