We are proud to report that five Chevrolet vehicles have made the list in J.D. Power’s U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout study, or APEAL, for the most appealing cars and trucks. A wide variety of Chevrolet vehicle styles and sizes are represented, with the Chevrolet Sonic ranking in the small car category, the Corvette Stingray in the midsize premium sporty car, Chevy SS in the large car segment, and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ranking in the large light duty pickup and the Silverado HD ranking in the large heavy duty pickup category. The APEAL study judges which models and brands buyers find most gratifying and appealing in 77 different categories. Having five Chevy models make the grade is something that Chevrolet is proud of and strives toward each year.

The Chevrolet Malibu is leading the way in bringing fuel-saving standard start/stop technology to the mainstream sedan market. The 2014 Malibu became the first vehicle for Chevy with stop/start technology and since then 97% of customers who purchased a 2014 or 2015 Malibu opted for the 2.5 liter, 4-cylinder base engine equipped with standard stop/start technology. Stop/start reduces fuel consumption and wasteful idling by automatically shutting off the engine when the car comes to a stop like a traffic light and then the engine automatically restarts within 337 milliseconds, about the speed of the blink of an eye. The average American driver spends about 16 minutes each day idling in his or her vehicle, with Americans wasting approximately 3.8 million gallons of gas each day! Chevrolet is proud of this advancement and it is predicted that worldwide sales of vehicles with stop/start technology will grow from 8.8 million in 2013 to 55.4 million in 2022.

On Sunday, July 27th, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will have a special guest as an honorary pace car driver. Actor Chris Pratt, star of the soon-to-be-released movie “Guardians of the Galaxy” will drive the 2014 red and silver Chevrolet SS pace car around the track at the John Wayne Walding 400. Pratt said he is excited to be a part of NASCAR for the day: “It’s a dream come true to drive the pace car for the John Wayne Walding 400,” he said. The SS is Chevrolet’s first V-8 rear-wheel-drive performance sedan since 1996, and has been campaigned as Chevrolet’s race car in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition since 2013. In other Chevy SS news, details for the 2015 model year have been released and the performance sedan is slated to add GM’s Magnetic Ride Control, featured on other sports cars like the Corvette Stingray and Camaro ZL1, as well as the option of a manual transmission. New paint colors are also projected for 2015, like Regal Peacock Green, Some Like It Hot Red, Alchemy Purple, Perfect Blue, and Jungle Green Metallic. Chevrolet has a long history of pacing races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and we can’t wait to see the Red Chevy SS start the race on Sunday!
When the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 arrives in our showroom later this year, the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 engine will be paired with a standard Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed transmission. With an overall wider gear ratio spread, drivers carrying a heavy load or towing a trailer will be able to start off more confidently. The Silverado’s EcoTec3 V-8 offers 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, and a maximum available trailer rating of 12,000 pounds, making it the most powerful engine offered in any light duty pickup truck. Though official EPA testing is yet to be conducted, the new Hydra-Matic transmission is expected to boost the Chevy Silverado’s fuel economy numbers, as well.
